Sid: My guest like myself were both Jewish believers in the Messiah, I’m speaking to Roberta Simpson. I’m talking to her about her literally it’s just off the press her brand new book “Nana’s Bible Stories” and the thing that makes it so unusual is that it’s a God book. And at age 70 God told her to begin writing. She never considered, in fact she thought she couldn’t write she was told by a pastor once, “Don’t write you’re not too good at it.” But this is a magnificent book, but what’s even more magnificent that the lay out is and the beautiful artwork is the anointing on the stories. It’s seven stories, one is on courage and it’s for your children, it’s for your grandchildren, you should get this book now and give it to them on their Birthday, or on special celebrations. There’s a story on healing. Now when you start out to write out a story Roberta Simpson, does God just give you an idea, or does He download the whole story what are the steps to get one of these stories?
Roberta: Umm well, I have my favorite but at the same time I really believe that God has given me ideas he doesn’t give me the whole picture, but I starting writing and then things just come to me, you know like, I wrote the story about one of my favorites stories and I think about it a lot is when Jesus, the mothers brought their children for Jesus to bless them and the disciples kind of shut them away. And Jesus rebuked them and He blessed them. I mean there’s so much to do with Jesus and children. And I mean I could have made that story much much longer, but you know you can’t because of time and they can’t be too long. But there is just so much and I don’t know if I have the years and the time to be able to sit down and write all the things that in my heart and mind. I have stories upon stories.
Sid: Now in your heart why did God tell you to do this? What does He want to accomplish with children?
Roberta: Well, you know tears come to my eyes when you ask me that because I feel that particularly well all of us, but I’m thinking about children of course a lot of them don’t really know who the real Jesus is. They see Him and they Hear about Him in Sunday schools and He’s just like a religious figure. I want them to know who He is, how He loves them, how He has a plan for their lives. How He knows about their situation and their needs and in some cases hopelessness, and I just long for children. Look I believe there’s a revival coming too with children, I believe we’re going to see children touching people and healing the sick and opening the eyes of the blind and prophetically speaking over us. I believe that’s going to happen, it’s happened in part, but I believe a mighty work is going to come upon children in the days to come.
Sid: Well, that’s interesting because I believe in children and I believe in young people and it’s been too long that we have demoted children to puppets and cookies rather than moving in the Spirit. Speaking of moving in the Spirit Roberta you like myself went out to the Brownsville Revival in Pensacola, Florida but you were so dramatically affected there. Tell me about it.
Roberta: Well, I don’t know if we have time to tell all the stories but from the time I walked…
Sid: I want to know about the time you flew through the air. [Laughing]
Roberta: That, but I want to tell you this first. I remember walking in one of the first times and one of my grandsons Raffie whose twenty-one now, he was only about twelve at the time. He ran up to me after the service and he said, “Nan, what is this I feel, what is in here, what is different I’m feeling something.” And I said, “Raffie it’s the presence of God you know I don’t want to do anything without the presence of God in my life that is so important.” But one night I was down there you know what I did at the Brownsville revival Sid? I know that we were not suppose to do this but I was from Barbados and I wanted to get everything I could. I would follow everyone around who was praying, Steve, Mike Brown, the pastor whoever. And one night I don’t know who it was that prayed for me but I flew through the air and I landed on the ground and I could not move.
Sid: Did you hurt yourself when you landed?
Roberta: Absolutely not! I believe the angels carried me in place.
Sid: Now when you say you flew the air, describe exactly what happened.
Roberta: Well I’m not sure I know something happened and I heard this man say, “Oh my goodness look at that woman she flew through the air.” So I knew I did and when I was ready to get back to my seat. And you know I was on the opposite side of the church than where my seat was. I had to crawl back to my seat I could not stand up and I just loved it. I just love it when it’s God that does something. He strengthens you, He changes your life and I remember one night Brenda Kilpatrick prayed for me and I was going through a difficult time with one of my children and she said “Oh Lord I see a sword in this woman’s hand.” And you know I’m telling you there have been times when I have used that sword, the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. Whether it’s been praying for people, or prophetically saying something over a person, that sword is in my hands and we need to use it.
Sid: When you were so touched by God’s Spirit, flew through the air, literally were you drunk in the Spirit when you said you couldn’t walk right or what was going on there?
Roberta: I believe that was what it was, I felt weak, I couldn’t stand up. I mean Brownsville has had they use to have a soaking room as well, I remember going to that and not being able to stand up on my feet and God just ministering to me and you know pouring out His love, pouring out His compassion. I went there Sid every time I had a chance and then my older son moved there, my older son Ward with his wife, and he ended up going to the Brownsville School of Revival and then working with Mike Brown for a while. I just went there whenever I could and stayed with them and would go to the revival it was just wonderful.
Sid: There’s something about soaking in the presence of God.
Roberta: Absolutely.
Sid: Nonbelievers and unfortunately many people that call themselves Christians don’t even have a clue of what we’re talking about. What does it mean to you to have walked into that building and you went from Barbados you use to fly there because you were so hungry for the presence of God. Explain what that’s like to someone that’s never experienced the presence the manifest presence of the living God.
Roberta: Well, it is the most awesome thing to be in God’s presence and I mean even soaking, putting on worship music and not praying, not speaking, not asking, not having anybody pray over you, just soaking in God’s presence. I mean He wants to do this in our lives and that’s when we change Sid.
Sid: You know I believe that’s what happened to you to be prepared to be a vessel at age 70 to start writing for the first time in your life professionally.
Roberta: I believe that too, I believe that too. You know what from the time I came to know Jesus I’ve been hungry for more of God. You know I would always say and I would meet someone that had more than me. I’d meet someone that’s seen angels, I’d meet someone that oh and I’d be hungry and I’d say “That’s what I want God I want more of You!” And I can’t be satisfied you know I just want more of God, the older I get the more I want I’m greedy.
Sid: But you are doing what God told you to do, you are when Jewish people start reading your book “Nana’s Bible Stories” have you given this to any Jewish people?
Roberta: Not yet, but because you know we haven’t even had it at home yet.
Sid: I know, it’s too new, but I believe Jewish people will read this to their children and they are going to end up being…I believe the story about the butterfly and the cross; it won’t leave them when you read that to their children.
Roberta: Well, I know one Jewish lady who read it like before it became a book she was a friend of a friend of mine, and she read it to children. She read it with such feeling and she’s a believer today and I’m not saying from the book but from this friend of mine who has been such a testimony in her life. But I believe that too and I have many Jewish friends at home who are so excited for me and they want a book, so you know they are going to get one.
Sid: Well, and I can see this invading the market place because the secular market place because you have a forward from the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. So I don’t know if you’ve done this yet but I think you could get on Hannity and Colmes and send some of these secular talk shows.
Roberta: Well, I think I may be doing that and you know what Sid I couldn’t sleep last night and I kept saying “God my life is not my own, it’s Yours. I mean this is so new to me, I mean talking like this on the radio, doing TBN with Steve Hill, I mean this is all new to me.”
Sid: Roberta speaking of Steve Hill (Steve Hill was the evangelist of the Pensacola Revival) and he told me that tears just came to his eyes when he read that let’s listen. Steve, what impressed you most about Roberta’s writing ability?
Steve Hill: Her experience has impressed me most because this is coming out of years and years of actually doing this, telling stories, talking to kids, how many people do you know that really could use something like this, maybe even an unsaved neighbor that has children, what an opportunity to give them a gift that they will read.
Sid: Now, what did you do with this book?
Steve Hill: Well, as soon as we got one we bought twenty because we’re always giving gifts, because we’re always giving gifts, everyone’s giving gifts and you want something that people do not have. And so we’re giving them as baby gifts, we’re giving them as Christmas gifts. We’re already giving them as gifts and we’re already seeing the response. One lady wrote back and she said she gave one to a friend the friend wanted to know how can I get three more. So do that, be a sower, sow these seed, buy these books and then sow the book into lives that can really use them.
